November 1, 2006: Precision Tech acquires additional office space, effectively doubling its usable square footage. The office expansion includes plans for a test lab and additional offices.

September 18, 2006: The Bakomatic platform wins Knight-Batten Award of Distinction.

The Bakersfield Californian has created and launched Bakomatic, a participatory media platform that takes Myspace.com concepts and applies them locally. The platform gives people an avenue for self-expression and networking by allowing them to create profiles, keep a Friends list and submit stories, photos and events for publication. Available on the flagship news site, Bakersfield.com; citizen media sites The Northwest Voice, The Southwest Voice and the Tehachapi News; Spanglish site Mas; area newcomer site NewToBakersfield.com; and music, marketing and young people site Bakotopia.com.


July 25, 2006: The Bakomatic platform is a finalist in the Knight-Batten Awards for best practices in journalism.

"Bakersfield Californian's Social Media Platform - A newly developed participatory media platform, Bakomatic, extends the networking concept of the popular MySpace.com to a local area. The Bakersfield Californian's seven community sites use Bakomatic to allow people to create profiles, add to a Friends list, and submit stories, photos and events for publication. It helps develop interest groups within geographic communities."


June 5, 2006: The Bakomatic platform is now available for licensing as an enterprise solution through a new venture called Participata. Bakomatic is The Bakersfield Californian's cutting-edge community publishing and social networking platform that powers Bakotopia, Northwest Voice, parts of Bakersfield.com, and more.

According to Dan Pacheco, Product Manager for the Bakomatic platform, the results of the project have been more than satisfactory, with a 20% increase in interactive pageviews for The Bakersfield Californian newspaper in just barely 2 years.


April 3, 2006: Precision Technologies enters into agreement with MTD Gaming, Inc. for the development of a Linux-based slot gaming platform.

March 22, 2006: Bakotopia.com receives front-page coverage on the print edition of the Wall Street Journal. "As Market Shifts, Newspapers Try to Lure New, Young Readers - Musicians Visit Bakotopia".


February 19, 2006: Bakotopia.com, a website Precision Tech helped to create, implement, support and deploy, wins the Digital Edge Award for "Most Innovative Visitor Participation, Circulation 50,001 to 99,999". Read more at the Digital Edge website here.

The "Edgie" competition began in 1996 with three main categories: Best Online Newspaper Site, Public Service, Best Interactive Feature.
